James Allen Olson, 77, of Ames passed away March 13, 2017. Following his wishes, there will be no funeral.
Jim Olson was born in Hamilton County, Iowa on January 9, 1940, the son of Milo and Bernice (Anderson) Olson. He served for three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in West Germany. Jim owned and operated Jimmy Jet’s Petro Palace and later a water softener business. He retired in 2002, after surviving a terrible motorcycle accident. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and hunting.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; brother, Michael; and sister-in-law, Morna Olson.
He is survived by four children, Greg (Lorie) Olson of Bellevue, NE, Steve (Whitney) Olson of Santa Rosa, CA, Cindy (Mike) Grimm of West Bend, Dodi (Dennis) Reilly of Grinnell; two brothers, Joel and Bill Olson of Randall; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Jim died just four days after being diagnosed with acute leukemia, passing peacefully in the presence of family members. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Israel Hospice House in Ames.
Soderstrum Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
