Obituary for Randy Lee Witthuhn

Randy Lee Witthuhn, 68, of Story City passed away on Sunday, July 8 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames from complications due to Alzheimer’s. A family graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Story City on Saturday, July 14 at 2:00 PM. The family will be having a come and go Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 14 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Grace Church Fellowship Hall in Story City. The family encourages family and friends to drive their classic cars, hot rods, Jeeps, or sports cars in remembrance of Randy.
Randy Lee Witthuhn was born December 22, 1949 in Eldora to Don and Gladys (Sorenson) Witthuhn. Randy grew up and attended school in Story City. On January 27, 1968, he married Glenda Olson, from Ellsworth. They resided in Story City and Jewell. Randy started out working at ISU and then was a mechanic at Phillips 66 in Jewell. Randy made his career as a truck driver in 1972 starting at Hove Trucking. He also trucked for Mathre Trucking, Brazos, Decker, Barr-Nunn and BTI. He then retired after 40 years of trucking. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with classic cars and customizing his truck, Lo Nuff. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retirement, he moved to Eldora. Randy moved to Story City in 2015.
Randy is survived by his son Lonny (Beckey) Witthuhn of Story City. His daughter Krista Hood (Steve Watts) of Phoenix, Arizona. His daughter Shawna Check of Jewell. Eight grandchildren, Addison Witthuhn of Story City. Parker Witthuhn of Kearney, Nebraska. Treyton Witthuhn of Story City. Jori Witthuhn of Story City. Haleigh Hood (Nick Nelson) of Ft. Dodge. Cole Hood (Julia O’Brien) of Ft. Dodge. Maryssa Check of Jewell. Marcus Check of Jewell. One great-grandchild Oakley Nelson of Ft. Dodge. His mother Gladys Witthuhn of Story City. Two sisters Rhonda (Larry) Hansen of Roland and Rita Warren of Story City.
Randy was preceded in death by his father Don Witthuhn; his father-in-law, Clarence Olson; his mother-in-law Emma Olson, his sister-in-law Georgia Romp and his son-in-law Aaron Check.
