Obituary for Mary K. Green

Mary Kathryn Green, age 83, of Lake City, passed away on March 11, 2019, surrounded by her family at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Lynn Bruch as Celebrant. Music will be by Becky Davis as organist and Jordan Otto, Gina Stork, and Ayden Stork as vocalists. Lectors will be Cole and Debbie Venteicher. Mass servers will be Regan Pogeler and Ayden Stork. Gift bearers will be Mary K.’s four children. Eucharistic Ministers will be Henry and Lorie Otto and Janelle Kent. Honorary casket bearers will be Mary K.’s granddaughters. Casket bearers will be Mary K.’s grandsons. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lake City at a later date.

Friends may call at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City after 4:00 P.M. on Friday, March 15, 2019 where there will be a rosary at 4:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will resume at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church until the time of the Mass.

Born on May 17, 1935 in Lake City, IA, Mary K. was the oldest of the eight children of Henry and Alta (Heim) Otto. She grew up on the family farm, known as the “home place”, which is still in the Otto family. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1953. Mary K. was united in marriage to Boyd A. Green on May 15, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. The couple lived in Lake City all of their married life with the exception of two years, when they moved to Minnesota. After high school, Mary K. worked part-time for Slim Johnston at Community Loan, which was bought out by MidStates Finance. She continued with MidStates Finance as location manager in Lake City. When MidStates left Lake City, Mary K. obtained her insurance and real estate license, being the first female realtor in Calhoun County. She then opened Green Insurance and Realty. Mary K. was involved in many activities around Lake City. She was a past member of many organizations, including: St. Mary’s Sodality, Calhoun County Board of Realtors, Lake City Chamber of Commerce, and Lake City Ambassadors. She was also a past member at the Lake City Country Club and Mary K. participated in several plays put on by the Village Square Theater. In 1982, due to her health, she was forced to sell the insurance and real estate agency. Mary K. then went to work for Norwest Financial in Carroll for several years. Upon her retirement from Norwest, Mary K. was found cooking, baking, and tending to her grandchildren. She was known for baking several hundred dozen cookies each Christmas season. Her family was especially important to her, and Christmas was always special. Mary K. loved to throw and be the life of every party. She was involved in Red Hat Ladies, card clubs, and SMCH Auxiliary, where she would assist in the snack bar. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City, where she served on the funeral committee for many years.

Mary K. is survived by her daughters: Toni Venteicher (special friend Terry Reinert) of Lake City, Teri (Matt) Stork of Lake City, Tami Green (Jeff Schwering) of Lake City; son Todd (Teresa) Green of Lake City and Foreign Exchange daughter Sonja Rivedal(Asbjørn Tjugen) of Norway; grandchildren: Wesley (Mollee) Ringgenberg, Mathew Ringgenberg, Cole (Debbie) Venteicher, Justin (Jennifer) Venteicher, Holli (Tony) Pogeler, Gina Stork (special friend Jason Stell), Janelle (Ryan) Kent, Adam (Jennifer) Rossmanith, Alex Rossmanith (special friend Brianna Wirtz), David (Nikki) Schwering, Kendra (Randy) Landherr, Eli Green, Caleb Green, Ethan Dodd (Stasie), and Aaron Dodd, 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters: JoAnn (J.R.) Rhoads and Nancy Schettler; brothers: Paul Otto (Kathy) and Henry Otto (Lorie); many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd in 2006; a sister, Carol Bachman (Lornie); and brothers: Louis Otto and Gary (Janet) Otto.
