Obituary for Mary Anne Johnson

Mary Anne Johnson was born on July 18, 1921 in Gillespie, IL to Charles and Lylletia (Mitchell) Mitchell. She joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp after graduation. She met her husband Herman J Johnson on the train to Fort Des Moines. They married on October 30, 1943. He died June 8, 1980. Mary Anne worked at Bethany Manor as a Nurse’s Aide for 19 years.
She was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City and Riverside Ladies Bible Club. Mary Anne enjoyed making apple butter, crocheting, reading, playing solitaire, baking and babysitting her grandchildren.
Mary Anne died December 11, 2017 at Bethany Manor in Story City at the age of 96.
She is survived by two sons, Jim (Dawn) Johnson of Story City and Will (Carol) Johnson of Highland Ranch, CO; three daughters, Leta (John) Miller of Dubuque, Colleen (Dennis) Olson of Story City and Mary Johnson of Story City; nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Thomas Eugene and two brothers, John Dale and Charles Arch Mitchell.
